Md. Shamim Parvez, popularly known as Shamim Shagor, is a distinguished theater director, playwright, and actor in Bangladesh. Born in Kushtia, a district rich in cultural heritage, so he grew up in an environment deeply rooted in artistic expression. His passion for theater took shape during his time at Kushtia Government College, where he played a key role in forming the college theater group and promoting regular stage performances.
In 1992, Shamim enrolled in a two-year theater course at the Drama Department of Kushtia District Shilpakala Academy, which laid a strong foundation for his theatrical career. His journey of group theatre activity began in 1993 with Bodhon Theatre in Kushtia, and in 2002, he joined Palakar Theatre in Dhaka, further strengthening his presence in the group theater movement. Through years of experience, observation, and practice, he developed a unique style in directing, which he has applied creatively across various productions.
For over three decades, Shamim Shagor has remained dedicated to the growth of Bangladeshi theater. His expertise extends beyond direction—he is an accomplished playwright, crafting plays for both stage and television. His works showcase a fusion of modern storytelling and traditional folk elements, captivating audiences with their depth and artistry.
Some of his most acclaimed stage productions include Dak Ghar, Chandrabati Kotha, Radharaman, and Ujane Mrityu. His direction of Dak Ghar was recognized internationally and invited by the Government of India to be staged in Kolkata as part of Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations.
Shamim Shagor’s contributions continue to inspire and shape the landscape of Bangladeshi theater, making him one of the country’s most dynamic and influential theater artists.
